I don’t remove them, but about a year ago, the community engine was running out of disk space, and the community engine started to delete badges, images, and attachments that were not in use. From our side, we’ve implemented some rules on badges, but since it did not fix the situation - we moved the community to a separate server with a large HDD.
So yes, some badges might be deleted, but only those that were requested before we moved the community
