Chapter 1: The Old Macbury Legend
As the convertible drove past the rickety old house, an eerie feeling hung in the air. A girl in the car remarked, “Wow, I wonder what happened there.”
Little did she know that her life was about to change forever. Her name was Mia. She had light brown hair, a scar above her right eye, and she wore a jean jacket.
“Mom, why did we have to move to this stupid town?!” At first, Mia was excited about the move, but the thought of leaving her friends behind made her frightened.
“Because, Mia, I have a new job here that will pay us a lot more money,” her mom, Janet, explained. Janet had light, brunette hair, like Mia, and a cheerful demeanor; she always tried to see the bright side of things.
“Mia, why do you always argue?” said her stepfather. He was a mysterious man named James. With his blond hair and fit figure, it seemed as if he were, well, made for Janet. As James spoke, Mia thought about what her father would have said regarding the move. Then, memories of the crash flooded back to her. Her real father had died in a plane crash. As he left the old house, he said, Don’t you leave me. He left to recharge after an argument. But Mia’s reminiscing quickly stops as they pull up to their new house.
“Well, here she is! Isn’t she a beauty!” Janet said, looking at the new house up and down. It was a shabby old house. The house was a sleek, modern white, with a black roof.
“I heard we have a pool, mia.” said James, in a cheery tone. But as Mia walks to the backyard she notices her father seemed off, weird even. It was as if he didn’t care about anything that just happened. As if it just went in one ear and out the other. Then, she looked in the backyard and saw the pool was empty, devoid of what it used to be.
“Well this was a bust.” Mia said. Mia then got her things out of the car and went up to her new room, hoping for something about this move to be positive. As she opened the door she noticed a small key sitting in a crevasse. She picked it up, and then suddenly out of nowhere.
“What did you find Mia?” her father said out of nowhere. It was as if he just appeared out of thin air. As he tried to glance at it in my hand, Janet called him.
“We’ll talk later,” James said. As he walked away he looked in the crevasse, as if he knew I took it. When he was out of sight, Mia opened the door to her new room. To her surprise it wasn’t as bad as she thought. Despite the waterstains on the wall, and the mold on the floor. She could see herself living here. But as it was getting late, she just rolled out her new sleeping bag, and got ready for bed.
“Mia, remember you have school tomorrow so dress nice!” James said. Ah school. As mia drifted off to sleep, she thought about her old school. The one thing mia didnt want to leave behind. She had friends, she was the class president, she didn’t want it to end. But something was telling her she was needed elsewhere. And then fate had its cruel way of telling her get out of town. It was like any other day, but something felt off. Last night jeff and mom had a fight. Jeff decided to go on a trip to recharge his batteries. As mia went to the airport with jeff, she felt… off.
And then As quick as a wink they were on the plane
Mia then remembered what happened. She heard the planes engine roar. Then neeeeeoooooorrrrchhhhhhhhh.
But she didnt hear the crackling of flame. All she heard was Meep meep meep meep meep. She jolted awake.
