Welcome to episode 6 of True Phobia! this month’s episode is Cynophobia, which is an extreme fear of dogs. Personally, i love Chihuahuas, i love German Shepherds, i love Huskies, and basically any dog breed, there are no bad breeds in my opinion. But people do fear them, and that makes sense, because dogs can be aggressive and defensive if they are raised and trained poorly, especially Pitbulls. That’s why they have a bad reputation. At the end, i’ll link a charity that is aiming to rescue pitbulls and train them to be better, help people be better pitbull owners, and put an end to pitbull stereotypes, along with support responsible pitbull owners. I’ll give more info at the end.
Now let’s get into the images and phobia info:
Cynophobia as stated, is an extreme fear of dogs. You might get it from a dog attack, hear a story of a bad dog attack, or other negative things relating to dogs. The phobia was discovered in 1992, according to Psychcentral. I’m taking this with a grain of salt, because i’m sure a phobia would be discovered earlier than that, because domestic dogs have been around for ~23,000 years ago, and dog fighting has been around since the 1750s, and pits have been around since the 1860s. So I’m sure someone would’ve been attacked by a dog and act scared around them, and someone would notice before then. well, let’s get onto the images. I’ll try to look past my love for them and try to be as unbiased as possible.
Some images may be disturbing to some viewers, if you have the phobia being discussed, proceed with caution. some images may have violent or disturbing depictions. Proceed with caution. This is your second warning,

Alright, when you put it this way, Dogs are pretty scary. I hate things with multiple eyes, and the mouth thing is scary, but personally i like the stomach mouth. a lot of my characters are horror themed and a decent chunk of my monster/demon characters have stomach mouths. but if this scared you, i understand it. It can be pretty offputting and jarring. When i first saw this image, i was put off by the depiction of these lovable friends as being distorted monsters.

Not going to lie, this is funny, it’s from Wikihow, so that’s understandable, for me it’s the " " and the dog’s face. Me personally, this isn’t all that scary.
Image 3:

Ok, this one isn’t scary due to the image, it’s scary due to the contents of the image, more that the thought that this happens to dogs is scary. and sad.

Again, the image isn’t necessarily scary, but i can see how the shadow can somewhat represent the fear of dogs. (kinda)
That’s it for this episode, if you enjoyed it, then let me know in the replies. Now back to that
charity. The American Pitbull foundation is a charity to improve the future for pitbulls and give them to war vets, or responsible owners. You can read in depth about their goal on their website. I highly recommend signing up for the newsletter, or doing anything else you can do to help them on their mission.
Next up, we are going to be discussing one of these two phobias:
- Ophidiophobia
- Acrophobia
